Relieve Anxiety: Don’t Forget These First-Day Essentials!

Uh-oh. School is starting again. Props to to the excited ones *rolls eyes*.

I’m sort of kidding, I am excited, but there’s some weirdness going on with my classes so I’m not holding my breath.

Anyways, I was just about to pack my bag for tomorrow and figured I should write a blog post about what to bring to your first day of classes!

Your coffee punch-card

My school is having a lot of construction on campus which required that the campus cafe be shut down. There are 2 Keurigs in the Barnes and Noble on campus, but sadly, we cannot use our meal plans to buy things there.

Sooooo, they offer a nifty-difty punch card were when I buy 10 coffees, I get the 11th for free. It’s nice to save money, even if it’s a little bit, and gives me something to look forward to every week and a half.

Something to take notes with

Yes, even though it’s the first day.

Depending on your learning preference, either bring a laptop or a notebook and pen.

There are 3 main reasons why you should bring these:

  1. Some professors surprise you with starting class the very first day, and you don’t want to be ill-prepared.
  2. While talking about the syllabus, the professor could add something verbally that isn’t on the printout itself. Having one of these note taking devices would save you!
  3. Because of the things mentioned above, having one of these on hand will help ease our overall first day anxiety.

Tip: If you have a lot of classes in a row, bring your laptop charger to fuel up between classes. If that seems to risky to you, stick with paper and a pen.

Some sort of food

Think about it- you’ve (most likely) been home all break able to graze on your parents’ food. When you have back to back classes, you have to either have something on hand or be able to book it to the nearest store if you get hungry.

I went grocery shopping today for my dorm and for snacks I got:

  1. Blueberries
  2. Strawberries
  3. Sushi (A Philly Roll)
  4. Peanut butter and jelly stuff

Sometimes, especially when I’m anxious, I like to nibble on something. That’s why I also got gum, but I didn’t think that constitutes as a snack.

Headphones

I’m not the most social person in the world, so if I feel like I’m going to be in an awkward situation I’ll either listen to music or talk on the phone using my earbuds so people leave me alone.

I also use my SliceThePie app to make extra money on the go, so when I’m reviewing music I need to have my headphones on me as a common courtesy.

Posts I’ve made about SliceThePie:

Hand Sanitizer

Colleges are effing gross. People are disgusting and we’re all sharing a thousand facilities on campus. What if you want to eat a snack, but you just had your hands all over the desks and the door knobs, etc. Geez, I sound like a germaphobe, but c’mon.

Bath and Body Works’ NEW hand sanitizers are, I think, 5 for $6 which is very worth it for me. Their scents beat any generic, dollar-a-bottle sanitizers, and my favorite scents act as aromatherapy for me.

The 2 scents that I’m in love with right now are Black Cherry Merlot and Vanilla Bean Noel. My all time favorite has been Vanilla Berry Sorbet, but I’m thinking one of these 2 will beat it soon.

Your wallet/ ID/ room key/ meal card

These are no brainers.

I only added them because over the holidays, you must have broken the routine of grabbing your key/ID before you left your room.

Little beauty things

These are essential in general, but especially if you’re going to be out all day/ for hours at a time.

  • Chapstick
  • Hand lotion
  • A compact mirror
  • Contact solution
  • Lipstick
  • A hair elastic

I also keep hydrocortizone for my eczema flare-ups.

Portable charger

This is really only needed if you are truly not in your dorm room most of the day. It comes in handy, but it’s a pain in the ass if you have a long charger (guilty).

That’s all for now! I hope all of my Little Giada’s have an AMAZING first day back to school.
